In the late 1980’s, the quality of training titles was to be quite honest, dismal. While technique and equipment was meeting with innovation and technology, the dissemination of knowledge was gained primarily through print media or seminars given by the various experts in the field of animal training. We decided then and have remained steadfast in our resolve; if you want quality, innovation, and excellence, you have to do it yourself.

Our family of experts, including Ivan Balabanov, Charlie Bartholomew, Susan Barwig, Sally Blanchard, Ricardo Carbajal, Barbara Cecil, Gerianne Darnell, Gottfried Dildei, Randy Hare, Jeanne Hartnagle, Stewart Hilliard Ph.D., Deborah Jones Ph.D., Charles Kirchner, Joan Klem, Phoebe Linden, Joanne Fleming-Plumb, AnneMarie Silverton, Jane Simmons-Moake, Morgan Spector, and Michelle Ward, have a long, rich history in providing innovative techniques for the training and better understanding of our animal partners; the service, companion, sport dog and parrot. In Memorium - Susan Barwig
Canine Training Systems® was founded in 1988 by Susan Barwig. Her extensive background in dog training included the following:
- Author of three books on dog training, including the winner of "Best Technical Book of the Year"
- Creator and Producer of over 60 video titles on a variety of animal topics
- Taught in the School of Education at the University of Denver and the University of Colorado for eleven years.
- Represented the United States for three consecutive years as a team member to the world championship team in Schutzhund in Belgium, Hungary and Italy.
 Susan was the driving force behind Canine Training Systems®. Her contribution to the German Shepherd dog and dog sport was tremendous. Susan is greatly missed by many and we hope her legacy will live on through our continued dedication to dog sport, the advancement of training techniques, and innovative products for our customers.
