The Randy Hare Detection Box
These are the boxes used in the Award Winning video series, On Target- Training Substance Detector Dogs with Randy Hare
. Each box is 24" tall x 16" wide x 5" deep. The specification of these boxes has been fine tuned based on years of substance detector dog training, box revision, trial and error and redesign to create this final form. The Randy Hare Detection Box has been crafted to be consistent in odor delivery, target chamber size, strength, durability and concomitant odor resistance. Because target boxes will contain one odor, the ability to securely house the substance and resist concomitant odor contamination is critical.
Through the use of the Detection Box, Randy simultaneously teaches the dog a clear detection response (3 types) while neutralizing concomitant odors. Through uniquely coupling the odor response to fight drive through Classical Conditioning, Randy consistently produces an incredibly successful detector dog that relies on his experience regardless of distraction.
During final design, Randy worked with engineer Chet Robarts to make them as efficient, effective and durable as possible. The boxes are very ìtightî having been built to very precise measurements. They are crafted by professional cabinet-makers for consistency in commercial build materials, gap tolerances and durability. These boxes utilize a professional grade sealant (common in nearly all furniture) to reduce the amount of moisture absorbed (dog saliva, concomitant odor, dirt, etc.) allowing the box to be wiped clean of undesirable residue with a moist cloth.
The boxes are sold and shipped 5 at a time per shipping unit. The brackets for the back of the box are included with all required hardware. The price of each individual box is $169.00 and they are sold and shipped in crates of 5 boxes per crate bringing the price of one crate to $845.00 before shipping. A quantity of 10 boxes is enough to set up a short-rack and have 3 or 4 boxes designated solely for individual target substances. Each box weighs just over 14 Pounds bringing the shipping weight to just over 70 pounds. The integrity of the boxes is protected during shipping by wrapping the boxes to protect from outside contamination.
There are a few companies selling detection boxes that on the surface look very similar to The Randy Hare Detection Box. While it should be understood that the box is just a tool that maximizes the training experience, inferior boxes will lack durability, consistency of commercial materials and overall build quality. Keep in mind that through use and design, the materials and build have been implemented for not only durability and concomitant odor resistance but to reduce any possible injury to your service dog. We suggest you do your research carefully. It should be noted that Randy Hareís Detection Boxes are designed and built to spec for a variety of reasons. The choice of size, materials and builders has been determined for good cause.
Randy is a highly sought after seminar presenter, having been contracted to provide his Detector Dog Trainers Course for the Military, FBI Academy in Quantico, VA and Special Forces in addition to police departments on nearly every continent. Randyís approach to detector dog work is groundbreaking, has garnered tremendous accolade and his technique continues to gain momentum. The only Award Winning series of itís kind; Randyís approach is decidedly unique, proven and applicable to any substance.
